Wednesday 22nd May – walk ***** Hemley to Waldringfield - sunny and
warm:)
Lovely quiet night parked up by Hemley Church and were surprised to find a
sunny day as the forecast said grey clouds! Relaxing few hours all by
ourselves reading, then breakfast, Mag even spotted a Muntjac on the edge
of the onion field. Then at eleven, with the tractor working in the field,
we set off on our walk to the Maybush Pub at Waldringfield to spend our
voucher, the second free meal out in a few days, not like us at all! It is
beautiful here and we are so lucky to live in rural Suffolk, rolling
farmland with potatoes and vibrant green wheat set off against a blue sky
with stunning wispy clouds:) The swallows were busy insect eating and again
a hare, we have seen loads of them lately. We love them! We leave Hemley
Church behind as we head along the tarmac dead-end lane leading to the old
cottages with great views down to the Deben with the cow parsley in full
bloom. It then turns into a pine tree path, through fields of wheat and
potatoes. Past a large impressive farm, big country houses with horse
paddocks and noisy black lambs! Nearing Waldringfield the path gets boggy
for a short way where two ponds cross, so we end up with wet feet! Then its
through the beach cabins to Waldringfield dinghy boat park where a Black
Lab is having a great time with a tennis ball in the river while a Laser is
out sailing but struggling to make against the tide in the light airs!
There were a few yachts out but motoring and a SUP heading to Felixstowe
with the river like a mill pool! The Maybush Pub was, as usual, very busy
with the outdoor seating area pretty full so we carried on for another 40
minutes. Walking the loop past the boat yard, holiday cottages and nature
reserve - with an egret feeding - then turning inland and back to the pub
checking out the plant sale and all the scarecrows from a competition last
weekend. While Mag orders cod and chips twice I find a nice table in the
posh covered area outside with comfortable metal seats:) The meal was
delicious and after an hour we felt up to the walk back to the van as the
tide approached high water! It was starting to cloud up a bit and the
breeze picked up. On arriving back at the van we pack up and head for
home. We had another lovely time away in our little VW and what was
actually only one night felt like a whole weekend away :) I check The Dip
which might have been sailable, just on big kit/foil but it was marginal,
also it was tide with wind which is not great and I was knackered so
decided to give it a miss.
